This photograph is from April 11th, 2024 and was captured somewhere in Hong Kong SAR, China. It’s a photograph of the sky looking up through the concrete-lined, interior courtyard of a residential high-rise or tower block.

Hong Kong was a typical Joe-esque, solo speed run through a tourist’s checklist. I had a blast, although namely due to the great tour guide I hired to take me around town. Kiyo Fung received me from the airport after my flight arrived in the evening, helped me store a bag at the terminal, showed me the ropes on transit, took me to a night market for a late-night bite, and then dropped me at the Harbour Grand Kowloon, the hotel I chose for my 48-hr layover. The hotel isn’t super central, but feels upscale and does offer a panoramic view of the East-side of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Island over Kowloon Bay.

The following morning, Kiyo took me up to Victoria Peak (pro-tip, sit at the back of the train on the way up for the best views), showed me around Fa Yuen Street Market in Mong Kok (I watched Expats before this trip), sat through a negotiation with me at a watch shop, and then delivered me at the airport so I could catch my flight to the Philippines.

Fun fact about this photo: I discovered after printing that it’s the only iPhone photo that slipped into the 30 set 🫣
