This photograph is from May 17th, 2019 and was captured at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA. It’s a photograph of the box seats on the stage-right-side of the auditorium, taken from the second-tier, stage-left box seats.

Got to see a Pixar show with one of my roommates at the symphony hall in downtown Seattle. For performances accompanied by movie screenings, I generally recommend spending a little bit extra to sit above the auditorium floor; you’ll get a better view! At Benaroya Hall, the level of boxes closest to the orchestra is called the Founders Tier. It’s the priciest, since you do get the best balance of view and sound. The second tier is also a great experience, although if you have a fear of heights, the third tier can be quite nausea inducing.

A symphony performance with a film component is a fun, casual way to try out a recital hall. It’s not customary to clap between movements, but it is appropriate to applaud for soloists and between pieces (follow the crowd’s lead.) One time at Benaroya, I got to see Joe Hisaishi lead an orchestra (1:56:02) in theme songs from Miyazaki films. I had such a great time, I could hardly conduct myself 😎
